We interrupt your regularly scheduled lack of LJ posts for the following important information.

The 4th annual 3WAuction Craft Fair is currently in progress, featuring a ton of incredible handcrafted goods. Please go check it out - my goodies (including scarves, bags, and hair ornaments) are all listed here.

Anyone is allowed to add auctions for the craft fair, so if you have anything you would like to sell, please feel free. And spread the word, too, if you don't mind!

Grrr!

Well, the president's Food and Drug Administration commissioner has appointed an acting director for the Office of Women's Health, and he's a man -- a man! -- who has spent much of his career working in the field of veterinary medicine. (Salon.com link, you may need to watch an ad)

Wow... 2 LJ posts in 1 day.

To clarify, after an IM discussion about this - I do think a man could do the job, the emphasis on that is part of the article quote. I also believe a woman would be better suited to the job, particularly as the choices made would actually have the potential to directly affect her... but I don't think that the greatest affront here is that the appointee is a man.

So on Friday I had 5 gmail invites... today I have 50! If you (or a friend, parent, pet, stuffed animal, etc...) want a gmail account, just give me a name and email address to send it to and an invite will be winging your way.

Brutal Women

With gems like those below, it's become a daily read...

"No, no, eat less, so you'll have less energy, so you'll miss workouts, so you'll feel depressed, so you'll get a prescription for Prozac, so you'll have no sex drive, so your SO thinks you don't find them attractive any more, so you buy all of Dr. Phil's books, so you can only afford to binge eat at fast food places, so you can hire a lawyer to sue McDonald's and CNN can write a "news" story about it!

This is America!"

"On September 4 1967 the New York Times published an upbeat story on presidential elections held by the South Vietnamese puppet regime at the height of the Vietnam war. Under the heading "US encouraged by Vietnam vote: Officials cite 83% turnout despite Vietcong terror", the paper reported that the Americans had been "surprised and heartened" by the size of the turnout "despite a Vietcong terrorist campaign to disrupt the voting". A successful election, it went on, "has long been seen as the keystone in President Johnson's policy of encouraging the growth of constitutional processes in South Vietnam". The echoes of this weekend's propaganda about Iraq's elections are so close as to be uncanny."

Wow... fascinating and scary article by Bill Moyers here... and here's the "rapture index" he discusses.
